
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 1999) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer, known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz classics from 1955 to 1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River" the track she introduced on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her note on the music, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor of 35 years began with film in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female role in a variety of westerns. She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional career in music. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But she was prominent in the emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) in which she was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
